XCOM 2: War of the Chosen – My Personal Favorite Strategy Game (that still kicks my butt)

I’m not one for strategy games a lot of the time. I often find them slow and unappealing. But then, I discovered the rebooted XCOM series. Out of all of these, XCOM 2, with the additional ‘War of the Chosen’ content (and a few choice DLCs) is my favorite that I have played. I have beaten the base XCOM 2 once on Veteran difficulty. Then, I beat the base game with the ‘War of the Chosen’ content added in on Commander difficulty; both times with no save scumming.

XCOM 2 is a brutal, yet fair strategy game. You must build up your infrastructure, weaponry, soldiers and try to foil the alien’s plans and free humanity; before they complete their mysterious project. Soldier death, sabotage and dumb decisions are permanent – if you’re playing the fair way. I beat the base game and the base game plus the expansion in the way they were meant to be played first, so now, I save scum and mod the game to my heart’s content. Even save scumming, and with a modded game, it can still catch me off guard sometimes.

If you’re looking for a strategy game that is very active, action-heavy, and also maintains a strong strategy layer with choices that matter immensely, I highly recommend it.

Here’s one of the best examples of how crazy ‘XCOM 2: War of the Chosen’ can get in the video below:
